There are many,
Real Canadian Idols out there.
They played in the biggest and smallest bars all across Canada. Living the life. In their own time and space..
They didn’t “make it” in the music industry, have a number-one hit to fall back on, and most did not have social media or access to 15 minutes of instant fame .
Now they work, raising their families, playing on weekends, the best life.
They are the true,
Real Canadian Idols.

It’s Toronto Canada 1974, and there is a home that hums with tension and the chaos of neurodivergence and narcissism. At first glance, they are just another Canadian family — four boys under the age of nine, two exhausted parents, and a home filled with noise. But beneath the surface, there are many lies and unregulated reactions, and a story that demands to be told.
The father is a brilliant but very loud and obnoxious man with a quick temper who struggles to contain his frustration in a world that never taught him emotional regulation. His aggression is not just a personality trait — it’s a symptom of something deeper, something undiagnosed, hidden and unspoken. He self-medicates 24/7 to survive in his world. He’s a killer.
The mother, intuitive and always overwhelmed, has spent years masking her own family abuse and trauma, never realizing that her thoughts, sensory sensitivities, and emotional spirals were part of a larger picture, making her want to control everything and everyone around her.
Their eldest son is bright, anxious, and highly excitable. He’s constantly getting lost in his mind and real life. He scripts conversations to try and express himself but appears dysregulated to most. Like a nervous person lying. Awkward and confused, he doesn’t understand social cues and spends a lot of time alone. He is said to be passionate, just like his dad. And is learning “the ways”.
His twin brothers are 4 years younger and completely identical. Struggling with their own identity crisis, they compete for everything. And then there’s the baby of the family, one year younger but same height weight as the twins, making them triplets and making his parents buy 3’s of everything, every time, until they were teens.
This is not a story of diagnosis.
It is not all true and factual. Some of the tales and people have been made up, exaggerated or dreamed. Just like in real life.
It’s about survival and the places traveled to by the minds of “those who are distracted”.
It’s a non-stop tale of one family’s’ undiagnosed, self-medicated and varied neurodivergences. Complete with addiction, abuse, trauma, stolen native culture and misplaced identity in Ontario Canada in the 70’s 80’s ands 90’s.
